Stop The Bleed

by | Sep 14, 2019

Death is tragic. But a death that could have been prevented is catastrophic!

Uncontrolled bleeding is a major cause of preventable deaths. Approximately 40% of trauma-related deaths worldwide are due to bleeding or its consequences.

Created by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, the “Stop the Bleed” coalition is focuses on raising awareness of how, with the proper training and materials, death from bleeding can be prevented.

This campaign was developed and motivated following the 2012 tragedy at the Sandy Hook Elementary School located in Newtown, Connecticut. The Harford Consensus including law enforcement, the federal government, and the medical community concluded that by providing basic skills and tools to stop bleeding in an emergency, lives would be saved. The law enforcement program was widely received and is now being used nationwide. Unfortunately, disasters like Sandy Hook are becoming more and more common making this “Stop the Bleed” movement more critical than ever.
