Commit to reducing stress in your life

Cardiologists agree that cutting down on stress should be the goal of the whole country. Highly anxious people tend to have more strokes and heart attacks.

Make a conscious effort to make more time in your day to do things that help you relax…even if you have to make an appointment to so do or set the timer on your phone. Try meditation, talking with friends, reading a book, taking a walk or exercising.

Resolve to lose weight

This is the number resolution people make and the first one to break.

Experts suggest focusing on a change in lifestyle rather than “dieting.”

There are many apps for your phone and computer that can help you track food intake and activity. It helps to identify your triggers so you can avoid them.

Get an annual physical

Besides making sure you have not serious health problems, your doctor will want to keep track of your blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels.

Get more sleep

Less sleep can lead to overeating, heart failure and hypertension. Not getting enough sleep consistently can increase blood pressure and increase inflammation. Further more that part of the brain that activates during sleep deprivation is near the part where hunger is, so we know that if you don’t sleep, you eat more.

Try: putting your phone away way before bed, reducing caffeine, and sleeping in a cool dark place
